Week One
Welcome to the set of Ray Ruby’s Paradise Club!
We are at week one, and the energy is high. Scantily clad girls saunter from their dressing rooms onto the main stage, accompanied by rockin’ music. The music is thumping, the lights are dimmed, the smoke machine is in effect, and Ray Ruby’s Paradise Club comes alive. Men in tuxedos run the joint, watching the Ray Ruby Dollars, the club’s currency, go from the client’s hands into the G-strings of the luscious ladies.
Although the infectious music and the gyrating girls make one think that heaven’s gates are always open, Ray (Willem Dafoe) is struggling to keep the joint alive, no thanks to his brother Johnie (Matthew Modine) and hislandlady Lilian (Sylvia Miles). Good thing Lilian’s husband Murray (Burt Young) is a laptop junkie, and actuallywins the prize for 1,00 lap dances! The girls haven’t stopped stripping just yet, and one of the girls is on stage, swaying around in her glittery gold next-to-nothingness. Forget that 8:38pm train back home to wifey, let’s get another dance going!
Week Two
The girls are getting a little fed up with these flimsy Ray Ruby Dollars- this money is no good for paying the rent! A strip-strike is being planned. RichJapanese businessmen aren’t the only clientele at Ray Ruby’s- old pal Danny Cash brings in a couple of doctors who saved his life… Riccardo Scamarcio, young Italian superstar actor, plays one of them, getting along very well with the director. Bianca Balti is expected to come in few days to shoot with Scamarcio during the next week.
Days go by very quickly, the set is frantic! While the crew is preparing to shoot the exteriors the atmosphere at Ray Ruby’s paradise is becoming every day closer to a real club. The music is pumping and customers alwaysstanding at the bar though the ice in their drinks is made of plastic and few meters away youcan seegrips and camera operators running up anddown.
The special effects crew is ready to roll… A chaos is going to happen at RayRuby’s.
Week Three
Always shooting, no time for lazy bones at Ray Ruby's! This unreal set - at every corner you meet hot girls and/or Japanese people, all under a constant red light and pumping music - well, now this is a second home.
Good times for the actors:
Willem Dafoe is rocking the house. He and Abel Ferrara are on the same page. Riccardo Scamarcio and Bianca Balti are performing very well, the director appreciates.
It's time for exteriors. Suddently Cinecittà turns into Manhattan, cars and people go by in the New York night. A crab-man appears on the scene: don't let him speak to the Japanese businessmen!
Third week is gone, a lot of scenes are now shot. Everybody is enthusiastic for the results, but don't calm down, next week will be the very important, with the arrival of Asia Argento performing the part of Monroe.
Week Four
It's the last week of shooting at Ray Ruby's Paradise. Asia Argento and her Rotweiler Leon spice things up on stage. Her outstanding performance entices Pras the New York rapper from the Fugees who came to play the role of Sandman the cook.
The heat in the kitchen is turned up a notch when not only dancers but dogs of all shapes and sizes wreak havoc in our not so ordinary (but strictly organic!) kitchen. But it's time to wrap. Let's call the Martini shot! The stage turns into a real club, the director pops the first bottle of champagne, crew and cast toast to this awesome experience. Off to New York!
